Melbourne Hindustani Classical Music Society is an incorporated association registered as a not for profit with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission.

Its Purpose as enshrined in the Model Rules that govern the Association:
The association is established to be a charity whose purpose is to advance the culture and heritage of Hindustani classical music in Victoria, being traditional classical music from North India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, by:
(a) creating and providing cultural and creative events for the members of the association and the general community to experience and appreciate Hindustani classical music including but not limited to holding organised concerts, exhibitions, seminars and festivals;
(b) providing an avenue for Hindustani artists and performers (irrespective of age and gender) to support, showcase and promote their talents in percussion, vocal and instrumental music and classical dance;
(c) developing an awareness and appreciation of Hindustani classical music, including the many and varied styles of Hindustani classical music such as Shastriya Sangeet or Klassiki Mausiki” (Classical Music), “Marg Sangeet” (Musical Path), “Uchhanga Sangeet” (Superior/Sophisticated Music) or “Raag Sangeet” (Music of the Ragas);
(d) fostering and promoting cultural understanding of Hindustani culture for individuals irrespective of their cultural backgrounds; and
(e) performing any other ancillary activities to give effect to the above.
